In Codd We Trust

Toronto – The defending NLL Champions continued to replenish their defensive depth with the signing of unrestricted free agent defender Bruce Codd.  The 2-year agreement with Codd is pending league approval.

The 33-year old Orangeville, Ontario native most recently played for the Calgary Roughnecks where he won the Champion’s Cup in 2009.  A veteran of 12 NLL seasons, Codd has played for Albany, Columbus, Montreal, Ottawa, Arizona and the Roughnecks.  Current Rock GM Terry Sanderson in both Montreal and Calgary coached Codd, while Rock Head Coach Troy Cordingley had Codd in his lineup in Calgary while teaming Sanderson on the bench.

The familiarity runs deeper than that as Sanderson coached Codd all the way back in his Junior A days with the Orangeville Northmen.  The intelligent, gritty defender was a member of two Minto Cup Championship teams capturing back-to-back titles in 1995 and 1996.  Rock forward Josh Sanderson and defender Phil Sanderson also shared those Minto Cup wins with their newest NLL teammate.  Codd then grabbed another Minto Cup ring as an Assistant Coach with Orangeville in 2008.

At the Senior A level in Canada, Codd has two Mann Cup titles to his credit winning the championship in 2002 and 2008 both with Brampton of Ontario’s Major Series Lacrosse.  In 2006, he played Ontario Senior B lacrosse for the Wellington Aces winning the President’s Cup under the tutelage of current Rock Assistant Coach John Lovell.

Beyond the rink in Calgary, Codd had an impact on the Alberta lacrosse landscape serving as the Technical Director for the Alberta Lacrosse Association.  Codd also held the reigns of the Okotoks Junior A Raiders for three seasons, which ironically is where you can find him on twitter @OkotoksRaider.

The Rock have also inked 2009 draft pick John Quarrie to a one-year agreement pending league approval.  The 23-year old from Ariss, Ontario played for the MSL’s Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks this past summer accumulating 19 points in 20 games demonstrating a knack for contributing at both ends of the floor.  He previously won the Minto Cup with Orangeville in 2009.

The Rock will begin their official training camp in late November where competition for roster spots promises to be intense.  The Rock will open the 2012 regular season and defence of the Champion’s Cup on Sunday, January 8 at Air Canada Centre against Codd’s former team the Calgary Roughnecks.

2012 Toronto Rock Season Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased by calling the Toronto Rock head office and speaking with a ticket representative at 416-596-3075.
