Nick Rose Wins Defensive Player Of The Week

Today the National Lacrosse League announced their players of the week and Rock goaltender Nick Rose is the defensive player of the week. The weekly awards are determined by a vote of the General Managers and Head Coaches of the league’s nine member clubs.

Rose is in his fourth season in the NLL, however Saturday night’s start in goal against Rochester was the first of his career.  After losing three straight games, the Rock made a significant change to their roster by releasing goaltender Matt Roik and acquiring Rose from Calgary.

From 2009 to 2011, Rose was a member of the Boston Blazers but was acquired in the off-season by Calgary after the Blazers folded and their roster was dispersed.

Rose made 28 saves as the Rock defence played their most complete game of the season holding Rochester to just 35 shots.  The 13-7 Rock victory snapped the losing streak and also moved them from the basement of the East Division into second place.

Colorado’s John Grant was named the offensive player of the week and his teammate Adam Jones earned the rookie of the week nod. Philadelphia’s Brodie Merrill is the transition player of the week.

The Rock travel to Buffalo Saturday night to face the Bandits at First Niagara Center at 7:30pm.  The game will be televised live on TSN2 and will also be available on TSN Mobile TV.
