Rock Looking For Fans To Be Superheroes

Oakville, ON – The Toronto Rock’s annual charity night will take place on Friday, February 20th at Air Canada Centre when the Rock host the New England Black Wolves.  The Rock and their fans will be raising money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

“We are looking forward to our fans rallying together for a great cause once again this year,” said Rock Owner, President & GM Jamie Dawick.  “With the passing of Terry Sanderson as the result of a heart attack, this year’s charity hits close to home.  All charities are worthy causes in their own right, but this year the Heart and Stroke Foundation is something we have chosen to support and we know our fans will step up and band together like they always do.”

Just buying a ticket or bringing a group to the game will assist the Rock in their fundraising efforts as Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment will be donating one dollar for every ticket sold directly back to the charity.

The game will feature an additional theme of “Superhero Night” which will also honour real-life heroes. The Rock are inviting fans to nominate a real-life superhero in their lives leading up to February 20th by visiting torontorock.com/hero.  One of the nominated real-life superheroes will be recognized at the game that night and receive a Toronto Rock prize pack including a team signed superhero Toronto Rock jersey. Nominations will be accepted up until 5:00 PM on Tuesday, February 17th.

The Rock will wear a special superhero charity jersey for the game on February 20th.  Fans will have a chance to bid on these game-worn jerseys right after the final buzzer by coming down to the turf at the end of the game for the live jersey auction.  Proceeds from the auction will go towards the evening’s fundraising efforts for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.  Anyone interested in participating in the jersey auction will need to pre-register to be eligible to bid and can visit torontorock.com/auction to register now.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation will have a presence at the game in various ways, including accepting donations and providing information to fans as they continue their Heart Month campaign throughout February.

“We’re thankful to be this year’s charity of choice for the Toronto Rock’s charity night,” says Heather Black-Bunting, Sr. Area Manager, Heart and Stroke Foundation. “Funds raised from events like this are vital in supporting life-saving heart disease and stroke research that helps create more survivors.”

Adding to the spirit of the evening, fans of all ages are encouraged to come to the game dressed as their favourite superheroes!  A number of the best-dressed fans will be selected as finalists to come down to the turf at halftime for a chance to win a team signed authentic superhero Toronto Rock jersey.
