Rock Sign Goaltender Steve Fryer

TORONTO, ON – Toronto Rock General Manager Terry Sanderson has announced several roster moves ahead of Saturday’s game against the Rochester Knighthawks at Air Canada Centre.

The Rock have released goaltender Zak Boychuk and have signed free agent goalie Steve Fryer.

The 23-year old Brampton, Ontario native was originally selected in the 3rd round 28th overall by the Philadelphia Wings in the 2011 NLL Draft.  Fryer served as the backup goalie for the Wings in 2012 and appeared in 2 games.

His Junior A lacrosse career saw him with stints in both Coquitlam and in his hometown of Brampton.  He played in the Minto Cup Canadian Junior “A” championship with both Brampton (2009) and Coquitlam (2011) and finished as the runner-up on both occasions.

The Brooklin Redmen and Langley Thunder have been Fryer’s Ontario Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) and British Columbia’s Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) destinations so far with him making an appearance in the 2012 Mann Cup Canadian Senior “A” Championship with the WLA’s Thunder.

The Rock also released Dustin Dunn from the active roster and signed him to the team’s practice roster.  Going to the active roster from the practice roster is defender Mike Lum-Walker.

All of the above roster moves are pending league approval.

Over the weekend, Patrick Merrill came off the one-week injured reserve and was placed back on the active roster while Eric Law was returned to the Rock’s practice roster.
