Rock Forward Earns First Career MVP Award

Toronto, ON – The National Lacrosse League announced today that Toronto Rock forward Colin Doyle has been named the 2005 Most Valuable Player.

This is Doyle’s eighth season with the Toronto Rock. He has been with the Club since it was known as the Ontario Raiders playing out of Hamilton. Doyle, just 19, was added to the line-up one night when another player missed a game flight. His 4-goal performance sealed a spot and he’s not missed a match since.

In 2005, Doyle posted a franchise record 111 points on 42 goals and 69 assists, earning him the League’s scoring title. Doyle also made his 3rd appearance for the Eastern Division All-Star team tallying four points on one goal and three assists.

Yesterday, Doyle was named to the First All-Pro team for the second time in his career. He has also been named to the Second All-Pro team four times. The quintessential power forward also earned back-to-back Offensive Player of the Week awards in Weeks 13 and 14 of the 2005 season

“This is a great accomplishment for Colin. He’s been with this club for 8 years and each year we have watched him grow into a more extraordinary lacrosse player. It’s just great that the League has recognized him this way and hopefully this will be the catalyst to finishing off this season on a high note,” enthused Brad Watters, Toronto Rock President.

This is the second consecutive season that a Toronto Rock player has earned the League’s highest honour. Jim Veltman captured the MVP award in 2004.

The Hummer Most Valuable Player was determined by a vote of the Head Coaches, Governors and General Managers of the league’s ten member clubs. The voting for all annual awards took place at the conclusion of the regular season.
