TORONTO ROCK DEFEAT EDMONTON RUSH 16-9

TORONTO – The Toronto Rock won their first home game of the season this afternoon in a big 16-9 win over the Edmonton Rush in front of 13, 468 fans at the Air Canada Centre.
Edmonton opened scoring in the first quarter taking the lead 4-0 off goals from Dan Teat, Chris Seller and two from Jamie Floris, until Rock forward, Lewis Ratcliff put back-to-back-to-back goals past Rush goalie, Steve Dietrich. Toronto captain Chris Driscoll added his first of the season to tie the game up at four.

The second quarter saw Edmonton’s Jason Wulder start the goal rush, until Rock freshman Stephen Hoar answered back to bring the game even at 5-5. Assistant captain, Blaine Manning, sunk the next goal to give Toronto the lead. Rush forward Andy Secore got one past Rock net minder Bob Watson who had 15 saves in the half. Ratcliff answered back putting his fourth of the night in the back of Dietrich’s net, giving the Rock a 7-6 lead heading into the half.

Rock points leader Jason Crosbie kicked off the second half scoring followed by another Rock goal from defender Scott Campbell. Ryan Benesch and Callum Crawford answered back for the Rush before Crosbie struck again, bringing the Toronto tally to ten. Secore scored his second of the night to end the third with Toronto up 10-9.
The Toronto Rock dominated the fourth quarter starting with Driscoll draining his second of the night. Crosbie would cap off his stellar game with back-to-back goals followed by one from Kasey Beirnes. Rob Marshall scored his first of the game into Edmonton’s empty net. Coming back from injury, Craig Conn added his first goal wearing a Rock jersey and the last goal of the night to advance Toronto to a seven point lead.   

Lewis Ratcliff and Jason Crosbie were top goal scorers for the Rock with four apiece. Ratcliff added three assists leading Toronto in points for the night with seven. Bob Watson had 31 saves off 40 shots on net.

Edmonton was led by Andy Secore with two goals and two assists. Net minder Steve Dietrich made 43-of-58 saves.

The Rock advance to 2-3 and hits the road next Saturday, February 14, to take on East rivals the Buffalo Bandits for the second time this season. Ball drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at HSBC Arena in Buffalo, NY.
