Toronto Travels To Rochester For Game 1 Saturday

Oakville, ON – The Toronto Rock enter Saturday’s Champion’s Cup playoff game against the three-time defending NLL Champion Rochester Knighthawks as the number one overall seed.  Game 1 of the East Division Final between the two rivals will be played on Saturday night at Rochester’s Blue Cross Arena at 7:30pm.  The game will be broadcast live on TSN4 and TSN GO.

The Rock and Knighthawks have a long history of playing important and competitive games against one another.  You just have to look at who the opponent was when the Rock won their first two NLL Champion’s Cups.  It was the Knighthawks that tasted defeat at the hands of the Rock in the NLL Championship game in both 1999 and 2000.

This season, the Knighthawks had the upper hand and won the season series 2 games to 1.  Toronto’s win came in the season opener all the way back in January by the slimmest of margins, 13-12.  Just a couple of weeks later, the Rock traveled to Rochester once again but weren’t as lucky dropping an 8-6 decision.  That game was tied after each quarter, but the Knighthawks pulled away in the final 15 minutes.

In their third meeting, Rochester got the better of the Rock in their only trip to Air Canada Centre defeating Toronto 11-7.  The Rock were without Rob Hellyer for that game, but he’s now back and healthy and got into the Rock’s final regular season game a couple of weeks ago in New England.

“Robbie Hellyer was having an outstanding season when he went down and he’s a hundred percent healthy now and ready to go,” said Rock Head Coach John Lovell.

Also jumping back in the lineup is Rock all-time leading scorer Colin Doyle.  After missing 17 regular season games, Doyle played his first game of the season in New England and scored a pair of timely goals.

“Colin has been a great player in this league for years,” remarked Lovell.  “It’s good to have him in the lineup this weekend and it was good for him to get a game under his belt in New England 2 weeks ago.  He won’t have any trouble blending in, he’s played with the guys before.  He got a little bit of game rust off him in New England.

Local area fans can watch Saturday’s game together at Shoeless Joe’s at 276 King Street West in downtown Toronto.  The Toronto Rock Cheerleaders will be in attendance and fans will have a chance to win Rock playoff tickets as well as a prize pack from Mill Street Brewery.

Saturday night is the first game of the two-game East Division Final with Game 2 of the series shifting back to Toronto on Saturday, May 23rd at 7:00pm at Air Canada Centre.  For the BEST ticket in town and more information, please visit torontorock.com or call 416-596-3075.
