Road Swing Continues Friday In Colorado

Oakville, ON – While the Rock wouldn’t turn down the chance to pull off the overtime trifecta after winning their last two games in extra time, the team will be looking to improve on their league best 8-1 record in a less stressful manner when they travel to Denver to face the Colorado Mammoth (4-4) on Friday.  The game will be broadcast live on TSN2 at 9pm ET.

Toronto’s last trip to Colorado was in April of 2012 and it was the Mammoth coming out on top 19-12 in front of over 15,000 fans.  This will be just the third time the Rock have ever played in Colorado and the team is 0-2 in those previous ventures to the mile high city.

“It’s a difficult building to play in in Colorado with the fans that they get and so on, so it’s going to be a great challenge,” said Rock Head Coach John Lovell.

Toronto continues to bring a balanced offensive attack to the table with Josh Sanderson, Rob Hellyer and Stephan Leblanc leading the points parade.  Sanderson (62 points) and Hellyer (60 points), currently sit 1-2 in the overall league scoring race at the halfway point.

The Mammoth are led offensively by a lethal trio of their own.  Adam Jones, John Grant and Drew Westervelt are all in the top 15 in NLL scoring through the first two months of the season.

“They’ve got a highly skilled and talented offensive group, they have those three key pieces but I think they have a lot of depth up there as well,” said Rock defender Patrick Merrill.  “We’ve got to be really disciplined, we have to be on our toes for a full 60 minutes.  And also too, play out full possessions.  I think they’re very opportunistic.  If we give them an inch, even late in the shot clock, they are going to use it against us.  Again, keeping our focus for full 30’s and the entire game as well.”

Colorado netminder Dillon Ward is a native of Orangeville, Ontario, which is the same hometown of both Rock goaltenders Nick Rose and Brandon Miller.  Ward was a teammate of Rose’s while the two played Junior A lacrosse in their hometown for the Northmen.  The 3 goaltenders are among the best in the league and whichever of the Orangeville natives are in net on Friday night, it’s pretty safe to say one of them could be the difference in the game.

Toronto’s 3-game road trip will conclude in Buffalo on Friday, March 13th.  The Rock’s next home game will be the back half of a home-and-home with Buffalo on Saturday, March 14th.  For tickets and more information, please visit torontorock.com or call 416-596-3075.
